I am lucky enough to live on the island of Alderney in the Channel Islands. I have a largish allotment & a 7 metre solar tunnel. Until moving here nearly 5 years ago I always used horse manure on my compost heap and on greedy plants (rhubarb). This autumn I mulched my asparagus with seaweed as everyone does here but is there anyone with experience of using on other veg-I know they use it commercially on potatoes on Jersey- the compost heap and near fruit trees or in the polytunnel?

I always collect a few bags up and compost it down then mulch my asparagus beds with it. They certainly love it.

Well you'll have probably seen seaweed being used in lots of plant feed mixtures.

I've also heard many people lucky enough to be able to collect it saying how they find it useful. One or two have suggested doing a check for salt tolerance of the plants involved, but that doesn't generally seem to cause the enthusiasts any problems.

If you do a search here and also voa Google, you should find some more info. Here's an example (scroll down to Peter's post):

Sadly the only stuff I've been able to get hold of is dried & SM3 concentrate via the Organic Catalogue. It's never done my veg any harm, though if I was organised enough to go and collect it myself I'd probably use greater quantities.
