crysanths

this is my first year at growing crysanths and they havent been bad at all. i was given 15 cuttings by one of the old boys on my site and was wondering what to do next. one thing is for sure that they need lifting would it be ok to pop them into the greenhouse border or would they do better in pot or boxes??????? the greenhouse border seems a lot faffing about to me.
If they are the smaller spray chrysanths I always lift mine, divide them, cut back to about 1" and pot up and over winter in a cold greenhouse. Keep them just moist. New growth in the spring can be used for more cuttings.
Some left in on the lottie have survived in mild winters but if you want to keep them I would lift and keep frost free to be on the safe side.
I would think this applies to all the larger varieties too but I've not grown them so can't be 100% sure.

You can just put the plants in deep trays or boxes and put compost between the plants, and then just keep them moist as Beryl has already said.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

I pot up some of each colour and keep them in a cold greenhoure over winter, I leave the rest in the ground, in the past I found that the ones left out in the ground all winter looked healthier in the spring than the ones in the pots.
I take Irishmans cuttings from the healthies ones in the spring.
