Can anyone advise me on storing pumpkins. I have two tom thumb pumkins in storage. One has started to rot at thr top of the stalk. Should i just cut it off lower down on a non rotting bit, or is it too late. Should I just cook it?

Thanks Seedling

Eat it. It won't store now.

Or bake it and make it into soup/puree/risotto pieces for freezing.

hi seedling, you could try cutting further down the stalk,if its clean with no signs of brown/rot in the centre of the stalk I dont see a problem (unless of course youve already eaten it!),like most things to be stored, cool and dry are the main requirements..S.T.

Seedling, I think there may be some confusion as to what you mean by the "top" of the stalk.
I assumed top as in nearest to the pumpkin - hence my suggestion. If you meant the end furthest away, then ST's suggestion seems a good one.

thanks everyone. the stalk was rotting at the end furthest from the pumpkin so i have cut it off quite close to the fruit. i will keep an eye on it and use it first.
