Chantal - Hi! I`ve made a dozen up to now - all with pompoms, which is a chore! Have you thought of doing tassels instead? They`d be just as cute and much quicker to do. I`m going to so some for a change - perhaps incorporating beads. :)
Oh - I did a set of yellow plaits on one. Really quick and very cute. :D

Hi Elderflower, I've beaten you by one little hat as I completed number thirteen last night.

I struggled with the pompoms for a while but now have a quick and easy method. I take four lengths of around 4ft of wool and I thread all four onto a very large bodkin and then pull them through until the ends are level. I then thread the bodkin through the cardboard and as it is laying down eight pieces of wool at one time it only takes a minute to do. I was taking around 30 minutes per pompom, now I can do them in less than five minutes, including the stitching to the hat :D I was getting terrible cramp in my hands making them the old way but this method is also pain free, even better!

I have thought about tassles but haven't done any yet; the beads sound a fun idea. :D

You're right, they are very addictive. I have five balls of wool in different colours and am making every hat different to the others.

I'm on hat number 16 whilst watching the Last Night of the Proms; perfect music for knitting. :D I daren't tell Tim I've done that many as he thinks I'm crackers, but as he works most evenings he'll never know.

Belinda, how are you getting on?

Dear Chantal, i bet if Tim finds them he will wonder what on earth they are for, i can't imagine what he would think they are to keep warm.

Morning OH

Tim does know I'm doing some, the first few were keeping the knobs on the kitchen cupboards warm for a week  What he doesn't know is that I can knit so quickly and I'm now up to 20 of them. He also knows WHY I'm doing them but thinks everyone should just knit one or two. However, with 400,000 needed, one or two isn't going to go very far, is it.

I've just thought, a couple of these would keep Rocky and Selsey warm in the winter.

Hi This may sound a silly question but what are smoothies? I must have missed the start of this tread, and what are the little hats for.

Thats 45 complete hats on the left, plus another 28 waiting for pom-poms and 13 waiting to be sewn up.

This is even more addictive than the allotment

Hmm!? Well I must admit to having been 'persuaded' to do one in Man Utd colours. Let's just hope they don't end up next to one another on a shelf somewhere, we don't want to be the cause of fisty-cuffs in the aisles do we!
