Anyone been to either Cyprus or the Canaries lately. I want a week in the sun at the end of October for me OH, and 12 year old son, we don't want anythign special, a quiet resort with a decent beacn and enough going on locally to eat out in a few different restaraunts over the week. Any suggestions welcome. What we don't want is lots of clubs / bars / discos and screaming families ( a lot to ask at half term) I promise I won't complain if your recommends are not ideal!!
Regards
A very Busy Compo........(will update in due course)

hi compo
we went to gran canaria in january, down near puerto mogan, that part of the coast is a succession of valleys from the mountains down to the sea,the resort we were in was taurito. which is the bay before you get to puerto mogan.
we drove through playa des ingles one day wouldnt touch that with a bargepole
tenneriffe is full of time share touts, but you just have to ignore them. weve stayed in los cristianos and playa de las americas in the past, weve been lucky and got quiet appartments and have ignored the noisy nightlife.
weve also been to lanzerote in the past, puerto del carmen, the trip round the volcanos is worth doing.
with all the canaries its worth getting a guide book and hiring a car , the roads are reasonably good , you can drive round the island in a day easily.
there are a number of informative websites if you google whichever island you pick.
gran canaria has a banana farm which is open to the public and quite informative on canarian horticulture and there is a similar one on tenerife.

Well we have gone for Cyprus folks, Helios Bay apartments on the outskirts of Paphos, so any reports on this place (yes I have found the dozens of websites that review it) but who knows someone might have been there eh?

Paphos yes,
I don't know where the Helios apartments are but if you are on the north side of Paphos you have a wealth of scenery & adventure!
If you can hire a 4*4 go north on the peninsula - it's a protected area(except Wednesdays, when the the shooting crowd go hunting for anything left).
You can actually go right over the top of the peninsula & down the east coast & back through the country to paphos W/O seeing any 'yips'.
Enjoy!
