Hello All

Just thought i'd mention that i'm back off my jollies. Had a fab time apart from being the local Gnats Banquet, nothing works with the little buggers. Still, i'm willing to pay the price for a fab camping jolly.

So, what have I missed?
Lots of love

Dear Lizzie glad you had a great holiday, hope you didn't give the gnats blood poisoning.

As for what you've missed i'm not sure, but what i am sure of, we all missed you.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

I have missed your ready wit Herby

I'm sure the Gnats are fine, they certainly kept coming back for more, and bringing their friends too

I've tried everything but they still bite me the most.

Did a great thing though. Might make it my new hobby. A fellow camper/mad person told me to try this so I thought, why not?

On a clear night lie back, looking at the stars whilst wearing sunglasses. Wait until you can start to see some of the stars through the lenses. Then, take off the glasses and look at the sky...

It was amazing, like the whole night sky was on fire. A great way to view the constallations.

Luckily, the only witnesses to the two of us were a few worried looking sheep and some bats that flew off quickly.

a friend swears by the more alcohol she drinks (think she drinks vodka) the less she gets bitten

Dear Lizzie, forgot to ask, where did you end up going in the end :?: :)

Bet that sunglass trick won't work as well where you live, or do you need them anyway with all the light pollution. :)
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

John Boy promised me faithfully he wouldn't mention the axel grease to anyone........I feel betrayed now

I'm sure your friends method works Jopsy but I don't drink.

To answer your question Herby we ended up back at the same camp site we went to last year up on the hills outside Harlech. We were greeted with a few of the same people who were there last year too. It was fab. The place is just brilliant. A real Swollows and Amazons place for kids. They love it cos there is so much freedom.

Every night, walking up to the ladies there would be bats flying about. There are also fox cubs calling their mothers, badgers, rabbits, voles, moles, tawny owls, barn owls, Eagle Owl (that's still under discussion) kestrals, Harris Hawks.....all kinds of wildlife.

There are loads of walks. Did the Roman Steps (thats where I had my accident and had to go to A&E in Bangor) but will go back and do the 12 mile stretch around the mountains.

I love it there for the isolation and the quiet. The scenery is stunning, the beach not far away and Snowdon about one hour away. I've decided that i'm going to do Snowdon before next years holiday. It's going to kill me but i'll do it. After my health scare i've decided it's now or never so i'd better stop buggering about and get on with it.

Went on a fabulous 5 miler from the site. We walked through the oak forests, over a couple of small peaks, through some farm land and back onto the road and back for tea.

On the way back we walked through some dense woodland and there, in the middle, was an abandoned mill, right next to the river. You could see where the river used to reach, where the water wheel would have gone and where the grinding stones went. It would look wonderful renovated properly. It needed a few little things, like a roof, a few external walls etc. It looked like something that the oak forest had swollowed up, taken back for its own. It was beautiful and the archiologist in me came out. I would have spent longer but everyone else just saw a ruin, not what I saw. It was once loved and cherished. Maybe it will be again.

Anyway, enough rambling from me again.......
Lots of love
