Dear Chantal, are you sure your allotment isn't on a old toxic dump, or somewhere where they did some strange sorts of experiments. :)

You certainly know how to grow them, i'm not sure as to the best approach towards cooking the beasts.

This little sucker took some pulling out of the ground I can tell you. When I finally hauled it up I wouldn't have been amazed if it had lept off the ground and battened on to my face!

Hormone induced growth.

Can't be Peter, only the leeks have so far benefited from that little by-product

These parsnips were planted in ground which hadn't been manured and had previously been a strawberry bed. I dug out V shaped troughs and filled with potting compost; and got this  I can hardly wait to dig out the rest of them.

Chantal, please ensure that Tim is with you and holding his biggest and heaviest golf club when you dig the rest up.

That way if they make a move on you, you might stand a chance. :D

Just don't let her take it to the KG stand, think of the negative publicity.

In actual fact they were scrummy. Once I chopped the "legs" off there was respectable parsnip lurking there. They were roasted with the beef and looked totally different when they came out. What's more, as the first parsnips of the season they were extra special.

You're right Jo, it does look like that squid man from the film. I'm thinking of entering it into the Ugly Veg competition this year, it beats last year's winner hands down.

Something puzzles me about the prize for that though. People enter ugly veg, so one assumes these people GROW their own veg. Why then give a prize of an organic veg box every week for a year as the first prize? :?

Oh, this horror had a little friend

so I'm sure there's a whole family of them down there.

I'm loving your carpet Chantal
Very odd prize I must say-perhaps it's so people who produce these edible but ugly veg/foods how their stuff should look?
