I've just seen a half grown black squirrel doing the most unusual dance in the middle of our lane, very comical indeed.
A bit fed up

Dear Alan, just had look at the 'reasons to be cheerful' post again, and the word cheerful is now coming up in orange throughout the post.
is it magic do you think.

Alan, don't wind up poor OH like that! The link is to a searched item OH, which means that Alan typed in the word "cheerful" and found the link, ergo the word "cheerful" is highlighted throughout the thread.

I never get too upset about the goings-on at the plot. Things fail some years, succeed others. I've actually managed to grow a handful of peas this year when every other year they've died early on.
My main goal is not to produce loads of veg, though it is a major goal. Like many hobbies I garden for the relaxation, the sport of it. I know it will never be easy, but it's the challenge I love, trying to get things to grow, to figure out why one plant went wrong (like my courgettes this year - I didn't think you could fail with courgettes). If everything went perfectly every time, I think I'd be bored.
And just getting out and working the soil is a wonderful feeling. We have sun today, so I'm off shortly to go to the plot.

Welcome to Finland!!
I'm sure that you'll all be pleased to know that I've cheered up somewhat since posting the above. I actually made a start today on building my second polytunnel, cutting the first lot of uprights for the frame and dousing the bottoms in wood preserver, so I must be feeling better!
I think, therefore I am.
