Hi there
We have kindly been given a healthy looking grape vine thats currently about 3 foot tall. We want to grow it up the front of the house as thats the sunniest & most sheltered position. But as the base of the house is surrounded by concrete - we wondered if we could put it in a huge pot?
Any advice ? Any advice on the size of the pot?
And will the roots get too hot in a pot?
Many thanks

If you want to grow the vine to a reasonable size, then you should get a pot which is 30l or larger. Use John Innes 3 soil based compost. You will need to irrigate regularly, and top dress each year, possibly liquid feeding when it has become a large plant. I would go for drip irrigation on a timer - keep an eye on the soil moisture/weather to work out your watering amount/frequency - they will need modifying according to weather/season/size of plant. As to pot, I would go for a commercial growers plastic pot with handles (LBS or local tree nursery might supply them), and put a decorative/insulating box/wall around it.
Hope this helps
