I am studying the wholesale catalogues with a view to placing our big autumn order for the allotment stores. The most controversial item is always the compost (could be better/could be cheaper etc.) I was thinking of going with Humax multi-purpose this year as their grow-bags were very good, and maybe some Sinclair seed and modular for careful sowers. We've had J. A. Bowers multi with added John Innes for the past two years but our cheap deal on it has run out and it is a bit lumpy sometimes. I'd be interested to hear of other members compost experiences and which kinds you favour.

I like Humax and have used their potting compost and growbags with good success. I don't know about their fertiliser content, but the texture always feels "right", whereas one of the Westland composts were a great disappointment this year, with almost unrotted wood shavings(?) and certainly too lumpy and bitty for sowing, although it was an "all-purpose" compost.
