Does anybody know anything about juicing berries?
We bought a juicer last Autumn to process apples which we did successfully but we have lost the manual with its hints, tips and settings (the Breville web site is down so I can’t see if I can download one) and we have a surplus of gooseberries, black and red currants. I have muesli every day moistened with fruit juice and feel I should be able to make something with these. I think red currants could be difficult on their own but I guess would blend. Do you dilute the juice, if so do you use tap water or boiling water? Do you just freeze it as it comes or heat and cool it first? Any good links for tips?

I had a juicer Geoff for a while but found it more trouble than it was worth. There always seemded to be a lot of plup left over which seemed wasteful to me. However the juice was excellant, but very potent. I would dilute it. We liked it with lemonade, You can experiment with any fruit to your taste. Veggies to can be juiced as well but again take it gradually in small amounts first. Till you system gets used to it.
You can freeze the juice as it is.
I would have thought stewed fruit on your breakfast would be better than juice. I always have stewed plums from the freezer if there is no soft fruit around in the winter as a change to fresh fruit.

I don't have a juicer but usually just compote my soft fruit combinations down by simmering gently with a little sugar and then freezing in a mixture of small and larger portions. I find blackcurrants treated on their own in any method taste too strong, and redcurrants too sour. Small portions of mixed berry fruit frozen in ice cube trays are ideal for putting into smoothies, including in porridge, or thawing and having with ice cream and milk puddings.Mixed cooked berries are also extremely good for turning into fruit syrups (for drinking with hot water & lemon slices in winter). I posted a receipe for these fairly recently in one of these sections.
