I picked a total of 14lb of raspberries last week and on a foray to Sainsbury's I looked at the price of them. They're asking £15.72 per kilo in Rugby so I did some calculations and worked out that so far I have picked just over £100 worth of raspberries. I feel much better now about the soaking I got whilst doing the job. What's more, there's lots more to go!

Dear Chantal, we feel so much better now, that you feel much better now.
And hopefully you will be picking the next lot in the sunshine.

Dear OH, what a relief to me that you feel so much better because I feel so much better; I feel even better now
I'm thinking I should start selling raspberries instead of making jam as they're worth so much more. I could sell the raspberries, buy raspberry jam and still have lots of dosh left over.
I think it's outrageous that supermarkets charge so much for soft fruit, but I suppose they have to pay fruit pickers and it is labour intensive. All the same, there must be one heck of a mark up.

Having been round the Tesco warehouse in Harlow once I imagine that the main cost factor with raspberries is handling.
When I pick raspberries I end up with red sticky fingers and plenty of damaged fruit.
The supermarkets want a nice neat plastic tray with un-damaged fruits nestled neatly in it.
