wood pigeons

Hello
This is my first message in the forum,I've just joined.
I had to resort to covering my newly planted Brassicas with nets to keep the pigeons off before they really did some damage.
Does anyone know of a way that really works of keeping them at bay with some kind of scarer?
I've tried bottles on canes and cd's and others,just like other plot holders,but none seemed to put them off any.
Any thoughts offered?

Welcome to the forum!
I feel the method you have adopted is the best.
Netting is by far the best method of keeping Pigeons off Brassicas. Pigeons very soon get used to scarers of all sorts.
Do remember to allow enough room for future growth.
Depending on where you are situated shooting is a very good option. They make a very tasty meal.

I have had soem success with black STRONG cotton/wire around the perimeter. Pigeons land at the edge and waddle to the patch and trip on the wire they cannot see.

Failing that, a cat permanently stationed there?:-)

I understand that wood pidgeons can be a real problem but I grow various greens in my garden and they never go near them. This is possibly because I put seed and grain out for the birds on a daily basis and they always make a bee-line for that. I think they're just fat and lazy and go for the easy option.

Looks like I'll have to leave the netting on then,it's a drag when weeding ect though, on my allotments theres soooooooo many pigeons,too many,lets hope the weather is dry enough for me to go down there tonight and do something,I love evening pottering in the summer,you never know I may bag a couple as suggested he he,
