Good grief! It's shameful to think that I spent most of my childhood living at a reservoir where trout fishing was the daily (in season) occupation. I was too busy sailing to take any notice of what was going on. I knew it was fly fishing but that's as far as it goes. I spent a hell of a lot of time avoiding getting snagged on a hook when it was fly fishing season, but that was it.

Dear Chantal, does Tim really know what he's letting himself in for, unless he wants shaving and waxing.

Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

Too late I'm afraid Chantal. No longer tie flies. Incidentally, I don't think that your chickens would appreciate the offer, because the best most sold feathers are the capes, whole!!!!!!!!!!

No Alan, artificial flies not bait!!!!!
One of the reasons I love this forum, is encapsulated in this thread. We have gone from composting to sailing! I am quite envious of those who sail. It was my main hobby while in the Navy. I used to sail (mostly)dingies. I cannot think of anything more exhilarating than being on a port/starboard tack, hanging onto the sheets with my backside hanging over the side. Although, I once sailed in the big ships race from Boston (Masachusits) to Halifax (Nova Scotia)
(Sorry if I have upset the purists on the site that think that we should only talk gardening.)
