These ought to be so simple to grow yet I always seem to have trouble growing them successfully. This year I've tried a different variety from the Taste of Italy. The leaves are growing prolifically, I have thinned them to give them room to grow and kept them moist yet still less than 10% of the plants seem to be producing a bulb. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Primrose

What variety? When did you sow them?

Radish II Candela Di Fuoco. Can't remember exactly when I sowed them. Around the end of April I think. The packet says that in the warmer months maturity can be reached as quickly as 5 weeks. I still have lots of seeds in the packet and wonder whether in view of this failure it's worth sowing another lot and whether I might have better luck this time. Our soil is very light and dries out quickly, despite having manured it.

Primrose

Candela di Fuoco - Firecandle are a long radish and do take longer to swell up. And they do have a lot of leaf. Keep trying. By the way, as the name suggests, they are /*!8# hot when ready.
