cabbage root fly

Hi David71
I have just had a friend of a friend who has a smallholding asking a similar question so I have cut pasted my reply hope you do not mind
Firstly I do not believe it is white fly as they do not attack the root they attack the leaves, I believe it is cabbage root fly which can and will cause the cabbage to die, get him to check if the plants have any little white maggots in the stem of the plant, I do not know how many cabbages he has planted, but one way of reducing this kind of attack is to put discs of roofing felt which have been cut into squares or circles around the base of each plant or he can buy a nematode-based insecticide to use after planting I have never tried this method myself but have used cabbage discs to good effect.
Hope this is of some help
Best wishes & kind Regards
Kevin
