I was mooching around in between sessions of clearing away the broccoli when I noticed that my french tarragon, which I thought had been killed off over winter, has lots of lovely new lush growth. I was really chuffed. I'd have been even more chuffed if I hadn't just bought a new plant last week! :)

Yes, it's great stuff. Tougher than it looks.

Hi, quick question, should I pick tarragon by pinching out the tops or by stripping leaves here and there?

Quick answer - I do both.

so since it's leggy and straggly I can pinch it back - that's good.

It might be worth trying a few cuttings if you wanted even more of the stuff. I didn't think it would survive last winter and pulled off most of the longer branches/twigs to dry & eat, but the new growth is really dense and lush and much bigger than it's original size last year. Worth cutting back, if only for that!

Similar experience for me. Thought my container of French taragon was lost amongst the weeds and bought another plant. As I was clearing the container found one last branch and a good root system. Have never tried the Russian stuff from seed. Is the flavor as inferior to the French as is often quoted ?
