Primrose I was interested to read your comments on Morning Glory, as I am growing this for the first time this year. What sort of planting distance did you use. I did not realise the flowers were so short lived. Any advice from your experience?

Last year I sowed the seeds in pots and then planted them up a trellis about six inches apart. Am not sure whether all the flowers only last for one day but that was my experience. When the flowers fade and the seed buds form, they quickly dry out, burst and fall to the ground below where they self seed quite easily. Mine were on a south facing fence and although I picked many of the seed heads off before they formed, some inevitably dropped into the soil and overwintered. Now they are all bursting through again and it looks as if I'm going to get a free crop. The little black seeds are easily harvested once the flower has finished blooming and if you plant the seeds direct into the soil you will probably just just a satisfactory result as sowing them in pots.
Thanks for that, I am growing a maroon coloured Morning Glory, I had wanted the dark blue ones, but they did not have them at the garden centre when I was buying, so will try them next year, both together might look quite nice. There I go, not got this year's garden season over with, and I am planning next years!!
