Being the part time prat that I am, I forgot to winter prune my standard goosberry. It is now sprouting well. Is it too late to thin it out, or shall I leave well alone!

Think it probably depends on how well advanced it is. Down here mine are already sprouting well and if you prune it too hard you may well lose some of the flower buds which are starting to form, with consequent loss of fruit. I'd perhaps be tempted to leave well alone in that case and give it its haircut after you've picked the fruit.

As long as you are careful not to dislodge the buds/shoots which you want to keep, then you should go ahead. Thinning out is always beneficial with goosgogs
