Tulipa.

I thought you might like to know this.
I went into the greenhouse a little while ago, the sun was shining and it was lovely and warm in there.
As i went through the doors, i was hit by this exquisite perfume.
I couldn't work out where it was coming from to start with, but i tracked it down to one pot of tulips that were in there.
They are a botanical tulip called polychroma, they are muti-headed, about 5inches tall with a white flower with a yellow base.
I have never grown these before, but i will certainly grow them again, they are also good for naturalizing as well.

Anyone else had any nice surprises this year.

They sound lovely, OH! My only surprise is that my calabrese from last year is still cropping, albeit very small side shoots! They cook in seconds and are delicious too!!

Yes, that's a distinct possibility.
The only surprises I can think of are the ones I'm about to have when the bulbs I bought last year come up and flower, because I can never remember from one year to the next what I've planted!

Ah, following on from that, my mum's (nice) surprise this year, is that all her potted up bulbs labelled 'daffs' are quite clearly tulips!! although probably not the nice scented ones

Ballerina are lily-flowered tulips in a clear tangerine orange colour and have the most lovely scent. These were my nice surprise last year when I grew them at work, so planted lots this autumn in my own garden.

I found a pot of miniature daffodils flowering behind my greenhouse and I'd forgotten I'd stored them there - caught them just in time!
