I dont think it is sheep mentality compo and whilst I agree with your sentiments, putting the current months jobs list in the current months magazine would make it out of date once the magazine went on sale.

Remember that the mag is on sale for a month until the new one comes out. If you bought it late, then that section would be rendered useless, that is why for example the "whats on" list is also a month in advance. If it worked all the mags would do it, in addition the editorial team are not just working on next months mag now but probably the next six months worth of mag.

Whilst its not ideal, its hardly a big issue. The content and quality of the mag has got better and better as each month has gone by. If you desperatly need jobs lists for today perhaps a weekly gardening publication would help out?

Dear Compo i'm sure we would get on pretty well, how long you could stick the silly things i get up too is another matter though. :D :)

I think the only thing that seems to draw everybody together at the same time, is a crisis in progess, this always seems to bring the best out in everyone. :D

I think i might have found an answer to the early magazine problem, buy it but don't look at it for a month. :D
Well i thought it was a good idea.

The original posting didn't appear until February but I didn't get my copy the next day so this talk about being two months ahead is not factual. The fact that those who pay a subscription may have got the magazine a week earlier is really neither here nor there. Its not exactly as though any of the information in the magazine is rocket science.
I take the magazine and enjoy it for what it is. I have already made my own 'tasks to do list' and really am more interested in how other gardeners tackle a particular task and see if there is the possibility of improvement in my own techniques.
As for expecting to get accurate weather forecasts in a magazine irrespective when it is published is plain stupidity! (I probably live to regret that remark)
I agree with Piglets postings.
For people who are new to gardening and may not be as organized, as apparently most complaintants are, a long warning of what is needed is ideal.

I very much doubt Piglet meant any offence in his remark Compo; my boss said a similar thing to me last week

Anyway, although this may not last, you can currently read February Jobs for the Month on the forum pages and March Jobs for the Month on the home page, which should make everyone happy. For now.

I think I've worked this out now.

If you go to the KG home page and then to the Jobs for the Month box, there is an archive button. Clicking this gives you a few topics for each of the previous months. The Jobs for the Month are called "digging", "sowing" and "jobs", but they are there for all to see.

I'm with Piglet..... or when you get your magazine just put it on a shelf for a month and then when the next one comes do the same but retrieve the previous one.

If you do that then you can shoot off to the GC to get your supplies but there wont be any cos we all bought them the month before. Hard luck.

or

I was tempted to the dark side in WH Smiths last week and from a distance read the cover of that other poor imitation veg growing mag. They were boasting that they had indeed lined up their advice with the seasons. You could cross over....

or

stay with us forward planners

So there are three options to be getting on with.

Enjoy

I'm not sure if KG is getting well ahead of us or are still a couple of months behind but at the top of this page they are advertising the December issue on sale now.

I like having the magazine delivered early.

I look forward to getting it, read it through, then re-read it a month later when it is 'real time' and enjoy it all over again!

Perhaps I'm just easily pleased....
