Personalised number plates are a little tame these days, but I was tickled to find myself driving behind this car recently:

For anyone concerned about road safety, the picture was taken by my son from the back seat. Considering he'd never used the camera before and only had around 5 seconds before the Jag sped off into the distance, I was quite pleased!

Herbie, good job you drove off before Colin's lad got you in shot. You'll have to avoid Bristol next time you go to visit Jopsy.

Even more scary, if you zoom in on the original photo, you can see a fair bit of the driver's face in his wing mirror.

Actually, it seems to fit in with his plates (as with dogs, owners looks/personality like their car????)

I remember seeing in Grangemouth K5ERA. In Drymen, Stirlingshire, a chap had UPU1 and UPU2. Billy Connolly lived in the village at that time and was talking to a friend of mine when UPU2 passed. Apparently he'd made the chap an enormous offer for the number/s but had been turned down.

Aren't these people pathetic spending thousands just to show off! I suppose the licensing folk make a packet out of it, otherwise they wouldn't allow it.

I recently saw a fancy Mercedes (ugly, if you ask me) with R4CER and many moons ago (about 35 years!) when these fancy numbers were very uncommon, I saw ERN1E, presumably Ernie Wise's who was then a big shot.

Interestingly, if you Goggle "Mr Sick B", you'll see it was offered on eBay some time ago. I couldn't see how much it went for though,

There's a guy in Rugby with one of those mobility scooters with a number plate on the back saying "OLD FART".

If I'm honest I think they're just stupid and the American term of "Vanity Plate" is probably bang on. (Sorry Jo).
