I have felt the same too. But then I do every year. My garden and poultry field are mud. But it's sunny today and good weather promised tomorrow and Tuesday. AND I've just found my first crocuses in bloom. Lifts the spirits and deludes you into thinking Spring is just round the next corner - but there's winter to come, isn't there? At least it's dry in the polytunnel - must plant some shallots this week.

I have been out this morning and set 2 new Apple trees just received from www.blackmoor.co.uk Newton Wonder and Bountiful.
The weather here is bright and clear...makes a very welcome change from gloomy grey and the damaging winds of the last few days.
Dad was able to take a walk down the garden to check on my tree plantings.
I got most of the winter digging done here over Christmas time so we seem fairly well up on jobs.
At work I had hoped to be further on with the kitchen garden area than we actually acheived before Christmas and it felt an uphill struggle on return after Christmas...we spent 3 days out of the main garden in the clearance of the cottage garden the week before last...this was fun in one sense (sad in another) but with a big bonfire roaring away making quick work of hawthorn and Lonicera hedge top and sides....but..our best, only, chainsaw failed with 12ft to go on one hedge top..piston skirt in ten thousand pieces in crankcase.
This last week we have nearly completed the kitchen garden area winter digging and whilst I sneaked away to make up some sales benches the west side border got a dig up and a split and replant, some greenhouse work acheived in the inclement bits...only one small area of open digging, the fruit cage, and the centre rose path (bindweed city)and the Lonerangers (Hydrangeas)to fork through...so feel we are a bit more back on the case...then we can get back to other areas of the garden...and I have mowers to look at 
A few Snowdrops are just starting to appear and the Aconites under the big Chestnut in the wildflower area are showing.
Meanwhile its not one greenhouse but all three that are looking extremely poorly wobbly...but all are still in full use.....Joiner has visited and much talk of repairs soon to 1 section of 3 of the front conservatory in a few months time
Onions are up in seed pans....but Mum quoting not to get too excited as there's a lot of Winter to go at yet..!! and much wet and windy forecast for midweek

Clive, did it make any other people cut their grass.
At the end of February i like to fire my mower up, and within half an hour you can normaly hear another couple of mowers running some where in the distance.

I'm in the same boat Grock. My greenhouse needed some roof work before all this awful weather, but I was preg and a bit scared of heights and not about to crawl up there. The person who offered to do it never got around to it and you can't bug them when it's such a nice offer.
Now I can get up there, but the weather's awful. And some ned threw a stone through a window and broke it, so it's less watertight than before. Got the window fixed though, one less piece of perspex for my shed porch.
Going to start planting things on house windowsills soon, but no point in starting before mid-Feb in Scotland as the house will be overrun before the weathers warm enough to plant out.
Roll on the sun. On the SAD front, DP usually gets this, but is only starting to feel the affects lately. Been too busy and happy with Seedling. He uses a lightbox when it's bad and it does work, but he's not very regular with it. He also takes multivits with selenium to help combat SAD and the little colds he gets. WHen SAD is bad they're a good excuse to stay in bed for too long.

Dear Malk, glad i live where i do if the weathers like that up there at the moment, i really must get up to Scotland one day to see that amazing scenery, not sure what the folk up there would make of me.
Jopsy Friday is the big day then, we'll have to think of a special surprise, maybe a bag of lawn mowings.

I went to the allotment today and finished the winter dig of the empty bits All looking lovely and dark brown and neat.
My leeks are still glaring at me reproachfully - keep eating them but still got millions of the blighters. Managed to palm some off on my new lottie neighbour and took a big bucket home plus some salsify. No idea what to do with that, but it grew like weeds from seed and took no work, so can't be bad.
Went home and cleaned out the chickens before rain stopped play. Went & bought them a fresh bag of mixed corn and a special treat of mealworms from the reptile shop at the garden centre. Had to run back out the run quick - they were possessed They scoffed the lot and them proceeded to dig the whole run over looking for any they had missed. They were knackered by bedtime
Hubby has just lit the fire so planning a big evening of lolling in front of it with a glass of vino collapso in hand.

My seed order is away - and I have that annual optimism that everything will be just as good as the online catalogues promise (D. T. Brown for the basics and T&M for a few indulgences).
On a mild, sunny and morning ewith a pleasnt breeze I was able to dig over one of the smaller 4ft beds ready for the garlic which is growing in pots in a cold frame.
BUT the mild weather is unusual - "spring" cabbage again today from the tunnel to go with the Cumberland sausages. (I bet this is normal for you lot in South Britain).
And it's going to get lighter and lighter each day. Great to be planning and looking forward to 2007.

Actually managed to get on the site today and it did not rain.
Did the trickiest of the braced posts, balanced on a one foot wide shelf between old fence and ditch.
Now eleven uprights between that and the previously completed section.
