I came accross a great site all about the heat of chillies. It's amazing how many there are, and rated in heat by the Scoville scale.
Anyway:-www.chemsoc.org/exemplarchem/entries/mbellringer/scoville.htm
I know it's ma long one, but worth a look at.
Love veg!

Remember to sow early with heat (next month) for a reliable crop under cover. Most will have little chance outdoors.

Best of luck

What you say makes eminent sense to me - yet I am amazed every year at the abundant crop of hot peppers which my fellow-allotmenteers manage to grow in the summer months outside. Of course, they've started them off as you advise. Perhaps they like the dry conditions which we normally get in Bedford.
