Hi

I had this in my mailbox today. I have heard this discussed on the radio but wasn't aware it had been put into practice.

Communication:
I am outraged and sending this to virtually everyone in my address book.
What ever you do though people DO NOT REPLY ALL to this email please sign and pass it on, it only takes a minute.
The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use
it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC,the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver.
A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked.

Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can
expect a NIP with your monthly bill.
If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/

Please pass this on to anyone who owns a car or motorcycle. It affects them.
I am in my own little world, ...it's OK, ...they know me there!

Here's a link to the feasibility study (which incidentally says that the technology won't even be ready until 2014, let alone policy!)

And a link to some BBC stuff, though I can't spot the study mentioned.

The tracking part is easily addressed (as it's not necessary for anyone but the computer in the car to know where it is and when) but no-one seems to have mentioned how we would know how much we're being charged at any one time!

There are some good points made here!

But if you're worried about Big Brother... I'd be a little concerned about signing a petition on a government website! ;)
