Does anyone know why boxing day is so called, i have asked a few people today and none of them have known, glad it wasn't just me.

....even had a flypast by a 1943 Spitfire..

Thanks for that Clive, it appears to be more of a hand out day then anything else.
I'm heading to Wales this summer, i'm going to be checking young maindens arms and legs for holly scratches, on second thoughts mabe not, i don't think they would believe me.
I don't think you can beat some of the old garden tools, i've got quite a good collection now, but even when i've been digging with my much prized flat tined fork i've never had a flypast.

i thought it was when the woman off the household had ,had enough of everyone and boxes their ears in.thats how it works in our house anyway!
