I have tried unsuccessfully to remove the flywheel from my Allen Scythe Villiers engine. I have undone th enut a couple of turns and cloute dthe end with a hammer but it stil refuses to budge and that is applying a long bar attached to a socket.

I am only taking the thing off to try and sort out the ignition which refuses to provide a spark. Any suggestions?

The best cure for Allen scythes is to place them in a large hole and leave them for archaeologists to wonder about in the future !! ( careful you don't fall in too ( HEALTH AND SAFETY WARNING).

Mayfield scythe owners win the day!!!

Hi Kev,
I suspect you will agree with this statement.
"It takes a man to use an Allenscythe."
Of course I write this with a wooden spoon!!

What!

Noble are making scythes now?

Wow, how fast do they go.

Saw two M14s Sunday, one minus front end, but plus two jam-sandwiches, second innocently in next layby, presumably eaplaining to nice officer that no, they were not racing in the rain.

I think it would be good to hear from Allen scythe users who are still complete in mind and body, i imagine some pretty hair raising incidents would come to light, if they have the courage to post them here !!!!

MAYFIELD SCYTHES RULE OK !!!

I remember many years ago my friend and i where tidying along side a riverbank well i heard a shout and looked around to see my friend dissapering in the river. We managed to save both my friend and the allen scythe although a tractor was needed for the later this was due to the freewheeling hubs and sheer weight of the thing. I still have one and we still laugh about trying to adapt it to cut reeds lol Alan p

I am convinced that all Allen scythes are hell bent on self destruction, as most of them seem attracted to deep water or steep banks and other hostile terrain where they can run amok, normally with the startled operator trying desperately to disengage the clutch mechanism whilst clinging to the handlebars for dear life.

Mayfield scythe clutches work with silky smoothness as the operators cut their overgrown areas without even raising a sweat !!
Unless you know otherwise!!!!?

I bought an Allen scythe secondhand, within a week I was desperate to get most of my money back. I now use a Benassi cultivater with a cutter bar, Honda 4-stroke engine for easy starting.
