Thin egg shells

Hi to all

My Hens are still laying, but one of them over the last couple of days has produced eggs with very thin shells, I can pick them up ok, But even the gentletiest amount of presure and they break, They are fed layers pellets and mixed corn along with oyster grit and now and then treats.
I am at a loss to this problem and hopefully someone will know the answer.

This does sometimes happen - have they moulted yet? If not, she may be due to moult, mine have just started.

Or it may just be that she is slowing down egg production for a bit of a winter rest.

Try adding Battles Poultry Drink or Lifeguard Poultry tonic to the water - or maybe a sprinkle of Poultry Spice on the pellets.

Cut out the treats. Keep the mixed grit containing the oystershell topped up.

As long as she's eating and drinking well then I can't think of anything else to do that you aren't already doing. Hope things improve.

One of my girls occasionally laid eggs with soft shells or no shells whatsoever but she always got back on track in a few days.

The main thing is to collect the eggs as fast as possible because if they break one they'll eat it and can then get into the habit of breaking pefectly good eggs and eating them too.

You can get it from online poultry websites such as - http://www.domesticfowltrust.co.uk/health2.html but I get mine from my local agricultural store.
