small potato order

does anyone know where I can buy potatoes in small ammounts no more than 10? t&m does selection of 6x10, but not my choice of varietys. buying in kg (min 1.5) isnt cost effective either as ther are usually 3-4 left over.

Could you find out if anywhere has a Potato Day near you? Ryton do one where you can buy potatoes in small amounts but it's obviously too far for you to travel.

Try your local garden centres after Christmas when the spuds come in. Ours all do the pick and mix.
Potato Days are the best place though as they have over 130 varieties.

Hi Mandylew,
Last year, www.GardeningExpress.co.uk sold potatoes in either packs of ten or twenty five. (Type in the keyword "seed potatoes", once on their site). They had loads of varieties, divided into earlies, second-earlies, early maincrop, and late maincrop. I have just logged on to their site, and they only seem to have "International Kidney" for sale at the moment, but it is worth keeping on checking to see when they have their new stock available.

Thanks very much for "plugging" my website.

The biggest, in terms of choice of varieties and associated activities is the Hampshire Potatoday (I think that's the one Beryl is thinking of) at http://thewhitchurchweb.org/potatoday and I'd love to see as many forum members there as possible.

If anyone knows of any other potato events (be they small events at your local garden centre or big ones attracting hundreds of visitors) please let me know so that I can publicise them.

There's not much in it as I'm just outside Bridgnorth and the Ryton Potato Day is much better, but maybe I should do both?

By my reconning it's twice as far to Ryton than Nescliffe and in an ideal world we should try to support everything that is local (otherwise they cease to exist - like village post offices) - and I think you'll find a friendlier welcome at Nescliffe. The last time I visited I was given a bowl of soup and that was to sell them potatoes!

Wait until early April and Homebase slashes prices of normal sized bags by half. A bargain and most of the varieties tend to me old faithfuls!
