A friend of my nephew threw a birthday party. Afterwards they found that all the newly laid woodstrip flooring had been punctured with lots of little black holes and was ruined, costing at least a thousand pounds to replace. This was all due to one girl who was wearing the now fahionable stiletto heels. I thought that last time stiletto heels became fashionable and then there was such trouble with expensive ballrooms trashed etc.that it would never happen again. Be on your guard if you value your flooring. Such shoes are very bad for your feet, especially with the pointed toes that seem to go with them.

At our last house the previous owners had lovingly polished their teak floor with beeswax polish every month. In one evening at our housewarming party, somebody in high heels completely wrecked it with pock marks, and even sanding it and repolishing could remove the damage. Now we have a cream carpet over our wood floor and the house rule is "Outdoor shoes off please". And I couldn't care less if they have a bl**dy great hole in their socks.

I take my steel-toe-capped welliies off at the door of every house I enter as a matter of courtesy and respect to the owner, and invariably, I DO have holes in my sox......

Give me people in shoes/boots/wellies/anything any day rather than those in smelly socks. Please - don't remove footware at my door.
