Fruit trees

I have just collected a Victoria Plum Tree fom James Coles & Sons who are our local Nursery. As they specialise in growing trees and are local I thought it worth while using them.

At £29.90 the half standard tree certainly was not cheap but when collected it was huge, 10` high with a good root system and all wrapped up ready to go.

I planted it today and am very happy with it indeed. It is a 5 year old tree and field grown. It has been fed, watered and well staked so hopefully after settling down this year will start to crop.

Piglet - Coles are excellent for trees. They wouldn't have sold it to you if they had any worry and they'll quarantee it - so no problems.
However I'd be careful on their plants - upend the pot and look for vine weevil. I saw them on primroses, which of course are a prime candidate, and immediately put them down and left them.

I agree with you on the plants Jane, I always find them a wee bit expensive as well.

Anyway you lot, ask Mrs Piglet, I am a veritable walking hot water bottle and if I hugged my new tree it would be in blossom within 10 minutes!
