If any of you guys like curry and would like to cook it just as the reataurants do then buy the following book.

"The Curry Bible by Pat Chapman"

It goes through the whole process from mixing spices to making ther sauces and suprisingly you can knock up a Jalfrezi sauce in around 20 minutes. All maner of accompaniments, starters and deserts are also covered.

It is available on Amazon and rest assured it is the real deal.
Kindest Regards, Piglet

Thanks for that Piglet. I love a nice curry and am game for making them from scratch. I used to have a Madhur Jaffrey recipe book that told you all the spices too. A bit fiddly but worth the effort.

Oooh, you know what Peter...I think I've made that. Is it with yoghurt? Looks disgusting but tastes lovely?

Beans, tomato, mushrooms, do not recall yogurt.

Just to make you jealous - guess who's going to Benares (Atul Kochar's Michelin Starred Indian restaurant) on December 1st? Me and the OH - late celebration of my 50th birthday. You've got to make these things last.

I've made a number of his recipes. He's regarded as the Spice Master of Indian cookery. I can post his published recipes if anyone wants them. Haven't had a failure to date.

Tigger I am SO jealous! Do tell what it's like.

For restaurant style curries I'm on my third copy of "The Curry Secret" by Kris Dhillon. They aren't proper home style Indian curries but are extremely good. You can make curry sauce to freeze and haul it out of the freezer to make a comparatively quick one.

That sounds good. I'll see if the library has any.

You can get it for about £1.99 in Smiths. It's only a small paperback.

I've posted this before, so apologies, but if you like anything spicy or Indian, have a look here:
http://www.mangoidli.blogspot.com/

If you scroll down a few lines, you'll see a subject index there (useful if you fancy trying something specific like Indian breads, chutneys, full meal menus, etc etc)

I can vouch for most of these recipes, as my daughter cooks many of them for us!

Colin

ps. - Can you let me know, or leave her a message if you find any of these useful?

Thanks Colin, it's now in my favourites. I love new dishes to try, and I cook a lot of Indian ones.
