Squirral Squadron

Hi All

Where I take the dog for his walk, there appear to be some squirrals that need to have ASBO's served on them. At first, I thought it was coincidence but now, I'm not so sure.

They are definitely aiming the nuts at people BEFORE they throw them out of the trees. They've hit the dog 3 times so far

Anyone else come across this or am I the only one? Any ideas cos I don't know if I should buy the dog a crash helmat or not. He's got a headache!!!!

Hi Lizzie,
The strange thing here is that there is a total lack of Squirrels this year and for the first time in 30 years plus I have not had a battle as to who has the Filbert Hazel Nuts (Corylus Maxima) (big buggers) for Christmas. For the first time ever I can't even give them away. I find this very strange and wonder if anybody else has the same thing occurring in their area.

These are grey squiggles JB.

The red ones in this area are to be found at Formby Point which has been featured on Autumnwatch this week. Martinmere is about 40 minutes from where I live.

There are loads of filberts in the park, together with conkers and sweet chestnuts. There is not any additional nuts fed to the hooligans as the shop in the park doesn't sell them.

Ours are grey as well. No redduns anywhere near us.
Hazels in the park probably Corylus Avelena not Maximus. Maximus have very large nuts.

The squirrels down this end of the country have been very scarce this autumn.(west Wales).

Load of the filthy tree rats here.

Dog is desperate to catch one.

She did manage to get a few hairs off one's tail once.

The hazel at the bottom of the garden has been virtually stripped, they run along the top of the fance from the left to the tree on the right and back again with more than the number of nuts they arrived with. I'd shoot them with the airrifle, but the angles are such that I could hit someone in the park, so I do not even try.

We've got some of the grey ones around here, and there ARE drays, but not a huge amount of sqews to wreak havoc. They do a lot of damage to the top of the Beech trees in the woodland outside our gate, and only occasionally try to feed off the peanut hangers that I put in my trees for the tits and hatches etc.
Two years or so ago they were quite 'evident', not so the last two. Maybe the Buzzards had their young or something ? Lots of Buzzards in the Forest of Dean....

It's a furry tree-rat conspiracy. First they steal all our fruit & nuts, then they use them as ammunition!

You rarely see one by itself - they're always plotting something...

Squirrels only appear round our way when the walnut trees fruit!
