Hi all new to these boards and just want to say hello to everyone and share a little tip I have picked up about butterflies namely the small blue very rare these days.....apparently if you wish to attract this species to your garden then you need to plant kidney vetch on a south facing bank. I have lots in my garden and I have the small blue for which I am very gratefull. Hope people enjoy this tip

Always nice to know what attracts the rarities. :D

My old geology teacher had an eco-thing for chalk downland and manufactured a stunning nature reserve by creating mounds of chalk and applying a specific mowing regime, he could conjour orchids seemingly out of nowhere by that method. :D

Great, thanks. My favourite butterfly. Kidney vetch will be planted.

What about those little pale yellow ones I see on the chalk downs, anyone know what attracts those?
