I bought the seed offer from a 'rival magazine' and supplied by Thompson and Morgan. They consisted of various edibles bought mainly for a winter supply of salad leaves.

Planted them up in wide mouth growbags four days ago. To my amazement within 48hrs little green shoots were showing through.

I've always grown such leaves in some raised beds I built outdoors and am amazed at the speed at which they have germinated.

Temp has been 16-20 during the day 8-10 at night.

Anyhow, for those considering the same I can recommend the following as quick starters for some autumn and winter salads.

Spinach 'Scenic F1 Hybrid' (the last to appear)
Rocket 'Skyrocket'
Salad Leaves 'Niche Oriental Mixed'
Herb Salad
Baby Leaf Salad
All Seasons Salad

On a different note I planted my overwintering red onions 'Electric' 78 bulbs and some no name garlic from this years crop. Think it might be Purple Wight its blinking tasty and keeps well.

Nice to get stuff going at this time of the year, very rewarding !
The Stone Age did not end for lack of stone, and the Oil Age will end long before the world runs out of oil.

I think the temperature must be just right for germination. My polycress came through in two days
