bean rust/sooty rust

Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

Have had a good early crop this year.
But the last three weeks they are suffering from
a cover of sooty/rust on the leaves.
Where it has attacked the row the crop has
now finished.
Can anyone give me advice on what it is
and help with how to treat it.

Averil - black sooty mould is a fungal disease and grows on the honeydew excreted by aphids. You treat it by controling the aphids. You may be fighting a lost cause this year now, but you could try using a soap spray on any plants not too badly affected.
