My thoughts exactly Jopsy. Although it is by a Scouse author. I'll wait and see what happens.
In fairness though, more stuff is filmed in Liverpool as opposed to London, especially period pieces. We have the best preserved Georgian, Victorian and Elizabethan buildings and a thriving performing arts community (Think LIPA, Liverpool University, plus dance and stage schools, the RLPO for your classical stuff)
I'll wait and see on this particular film although if they want to come to our site they'll get some juicy material from real life. It could be a new Big Brother.
We could call it "Big Parsnips"
In fairness though, more stuff is filmed in Liverpool as opposed to London, especially period pieces. Ok, follow up on this has just been on the local news. The whole thing is being filmed down in Dingle, about 10 mins drive from me. Before anyone starts on the politics bit, i'm just relaying what's been said.
The story is fact based on a scheme available here in Liverpool. Immigrants who are allowed to remain in the UK are given allotments (if they choose) as a way of intergrating into the community, growing their own stuff and as a form of therapy to help them get over stuff that has happend to them in their home country.
The story is about an over zealous allotment secreatary who rules the allotments and allotmenteers with an iron rod of inflexability and distinct lack of common sense. All lottie holders know the type of secretary i'm talking about!!! In the end, the peasents start revolting and end up forcing the over zealous one out of office. This is all seen through the eyes of one new Chinese lottie holder.
The idea being that if you scratch the surface of a tranquil looking scene, the unexpected horrors of some peoples personalities and frailties will come to the surface.
Just thought i'd let you know. The clip i've seen looks quite good.

I think it is for national release.
As for sweetness and light, they should of filmed where my lottie is. They wouldn't have needed actors!!!!! It's all there in the flesh for most of the roles

It has long been my belief that the TV companies have missed a great opportunity to exploit the many wonderful and often weird (the nicest possible weird)...maybe I should have said bizzare folk who have allotments. This should be in the form of an ongoing series and visiting allotment sites throughout the UK ...the closest to come to it was the TV company who produced a thirteen episode series in the South West (Bristol area I think) entitled 'The Allotment' it is still available on a three set DVD
Monty Don's oft repeated visit to Birmingham allotments for an hour long programme gives a brief idea of what could be with a bit of imagination
