Thanks all for your concern. It was a technical hiccup and I have fixed up an emergency arrangement with alternative gear.I note that the random interruptions that have plagued me in all my internet work have gone so it seems the internal wiring is at fault. The plan is therefore to have a wireless network for which a router will be obtained soon. The hardware for a seperate cordless telephone system is due to go live today.

I have now completed the rewire to the desktop and realise how much difference it makes not to have the faulty wiring, No more wrestling to go on line, once on it stays on. The next battle is to work through the manual and set up the cordless 'phone network.

But a lower level of confidence as to the size of stick you will use.

Wireless is good.

Wireless is brilliant! As you may recall, you can set your house on fire and stay on line whilst the hunky firemen put it out.

The new cordless phones are now working but as a sop to the other half I left one old-type phone in circuit, incredible though it seems that one phone stopped my broadband working (even with a filter) but all is well now that is unplugged. I now have to master 38 pages of instructions, not essential but could be very useful enhancements. The full instruction book is also available online, useful if the original goes missing.

am i the only one who wants a simple phone to make and receive voice calls without the need for an instruction book ? all these fancy gimmicks are only any good if you use them often enough to remember how to work them :D
