No trouble getting an allotment in Gwent! They are mostly in a very poor condition and hardly used in my area. Probably one of the only reasons for living in South Gwent!
My "new" allotment is mostly weed covered and not going to be usable before next spring, but I would like to plant a small area (5mx3m) now (end of August.)I have plenty of strawberry plants in pots- can I plant these yet? Also, thought I would get some winter cabbage plug plants, some onions for over-wintering and some garlic, but what else can I get in the ground just to get started before the winter sets in? I've got salad leaves in raised beds in the garden, so don't need these. Would I be able to plant raspberry canes this year? All suggestions gratefully received!

Good evening Doctor Deb, a little word of warning if you are going to plant any crops like strawberries or fruit bushes, make sure your ground is free of perenial weeds, if you don't it makes for hard work in years to come.
Your stawberry plants will be fine to plant out now.
Raspberries can be bought and planted in the autumn, as can other fruit bushes or trees.
You could also sow peas and broad beans later on in the year, making sure these are the ones that can be sown in the autumn.
Also there is brussels and kale.
