Seemed no point just to go down to water & just come home so stayed on to my usual regime. I did move myself to Lottie 2 & kept near the trees later so I had some shade, put prior to that I did a quick weed of the squash & pumpkin which are planted through membrane so easy. They are certainly much happier with the heat & taking off in all directions. I've got a courgette which has been sitting & staring at me for weeks but even it woke up so hoping it will nudge the others to do the same. Then gave the runners beans some more assistance climbing, just a curl up but it seems scared of heights so I have bought some velcro strips to help them but they haven't come yet.
Getting home was a tedious affair as the council is playing on the bypass again & traffic ultra heavy but eventually I escaped the most grumpy bus driver I've ever met, he wasn't rude but he deffo mastered tutting. Mind I can understand why as he was a big chap & an old bus with no air com & running late & getting whinged at. I gave him my last cold drink when I got off as did feel for him, I think it was pretty much empty by the time I even stepped off.

Blimey it is hot!
I certainly don't think I will be doing much more then watering everything on Monday. I don't mind a bit of heat but temp is not even dropping much at night. I will walk the dog back as it will be cooler walking through the path near the stream under the trees then being stuck on a bus, but I will have to be careful as dogs allowed off lead there & why we moved to the bus as encountered too many aggressive dogs, but think I should be fine based on how early we will be down & deffo not staying on the plot very long!
Noted on the phone weather we may have some rain, thunder & lightning end of the week so something to look forward to...but then straight back into another run of hot weather. How's everyone's crops getting on? Mine are alive, but not bounding away ...except the squash & pumpkins. I'm happy with alive at the moment, just waiting for the rain to give them some oomph!

The wind was blowing strongly yesterday and still blowing today…..pulling all the moisture from the soil. I’m really starting to think wether next year, it’s worth pulling trenches out, 6”/150mm deep, then planting in the bottom of these…..it would make a huge difference to holding the water, when watering!
The biggest downfall would be if we did get a really wet Spring and Summer, as the plants could get water-logged!

Sadly, I’ve lost my worms. All dead due to the heat, and the compost was all rancid. Binned the lot this morning, disinfected the wormery, back to square one . 
. Was horrible work in the heat.
Only 3 days ago, they were happy. I’ll order some more once we’ve got cooler spell forecast.
Crops look Ok though, except the strawberries which are daily wilting and I didn’t get much fruit, despite lots of flowers.
Picked a tub full of dwarf beans this morning, will probably freeze most of them.
Garden borders are parched, I’m trying to keep everything alive.
