Took dog for walk earlier and could hear all the boilers clicking on.

On a good note had email saying heating oil is £0.7845 a big saving on what was on offer 6 weeks ago £0.9240.

Bet it wont stay at that price for long though.

Well there should be lots of hot air generated with the England fooballl world up match tonight !! Might have to retreat under the duvet with a hot water bottle to escape all the shouting at the screen which goes on in this house !

I will be watching the World Cup this evening - my first! I usually avoid it but while channel hopping I watched a bit of a game England was in & I was impressed by them & the opponents. It just seemed so much slicker with less feigning injury & shirt pulling & the players seemed proper fit & fast & working well together as a team. Plus the ref's do not dither with the cards, although there have not been too many as his/her warning chats look pretty intense. Will see!

On the question of hot air, read in today,s paper some elderly people are planning to spend up to 20 hours a day in bed as the only place they can keep warm So damaging to general health as leg muscles can atrophy very quickly affecting walking and balance and bad for circulation too. Five minutes every hour gently walking on the spot wearing a warm overcoat might feel a more harsh option but probably better for one's long term health.

I totally agree Primrose but that message is not being put out which strikes me as strange as we got bombarded with advice during Covid. Reduced mobility is a downward spiral & can impact the services (& their lives)!

.. I remember using a mangle, if fact there is a local car wash that still uses one for ringing out their leather.
I remember my mother's washing machine had a mangle powered off the machine so that, with wooden tongs, the washing could be lifted out of the vertical tub, fed into the mangle and the wrung-out warm water diverted back.

Meanwhile Martin Lewis is also advising about the electricity consumption of tumble dryers in The Sun. https://www.thesun.co.uk/money/20699494/mart ... nergy/amp/

Me too and we used to hang the washing to dry on an overhead contraption with a pully which was in the kitchen.

I can recall.turning the handle on my mum's mangle as she squeezed ou the surplus water on my liberty bodice ! Now that dates me, trouble is the pressure often broke the inferior quality austerity rubber buttons on it.
I can almost see mangles making a comeback in these high cost energy times. They did an effective job, at least for anything without buttons.

In those days one garment often had to last you the week so perhaps there wasn,t so much washing done?

Husband bought a clothes horse from Wliko yesterday. It's absolutely fine for most things. I'll now only use the tumble drier for towels and anything we're in a rush for.

We're only heating the rooms we're currently using, eg the bedroom before getting dressed, stuff like that. We're keeping curtains shut to keep out draughts where we don't actively want the daylight, eg bedroom during the day.

I really don't want to pour money down the drain on electricity we don't actually need. More money in pocket means more books or kitchen gadgets for me!

Gosh, I remember the pulley in the kitchen. It was the norm back then. Gosh that makes it sound like ye olden days. I'm currently reading a book - the time traveller to medieval England: a handbook - fascinating!

Well, this is rather annoying. We had the parcel delivered yesterday with the remoska accessories, the velvetiser, and various other things. But no remoska itself! The parcel had not been tampered with and the courier says they've delivered it. So, where the heck is our remoska?

Oh, not another fight on our hands. Life has been tough enough without having to deal with yet more general incompetence and stupidity.

I'm going to have a party. Now is too close to Christmas and there's no Sunday between Christmas and New Year. I think the 8th of Jan might be the best time. (Sunday is good because many people don't have to work on a Sunday.)

BTW, I didn't hide the velvetiser. Husband was sceptical it was worth the expense and whether would we use it. Oh yes! This is a really good thing! It also came with a 'selection box' of free samples of different flavours. He's as much a fan as I am. Of course, you don't need a velvetiser to make the hot choc in these flavours, just a pan of milk or water which you stir or whisk.

According to their magazine (promotional booklet) that came with it, it's also good for health - lowers blood pressure, releases feel-good chemicals in the brain, etc. I'm glad we've got it anyway. Happy to offer chocolate as well as alcohol at this little party I'm planning.

Don't waste your time with the delivery company regarding the missing Remoska report immediately to Lakeland as your contract is with them & they should replace it & then do their own investigation with the delivery company.

Hi Westi,

D'oh! What's wrong with me? As a budding accountant I studied mercantile law at uni for several years. Of course your suggestion is the way to go. Thanks.

David also noted that I'd spent £3 extra for next day delivery. I should get that refunded too.

When you don't live in the UK for several years (or decades) I guess you just forget stuff that might have seemed obvious before.

For example, I was a bit surprised to see a naked man walking down the pasta aisle in the supermarket. But I guess that's just the norm these days.
