Hello

I'm really keen to start some sort of kitchen garden. Despite an inclination to throw caution to the wind and dig up a whole load of ground I think I'll start by trying to grow stuff in pots. I am completely unexperienced so would love some guidance from you good people! What would be good vegetables for me to start with? Is it too late in the year to start now?

Thanks for your help!

Hi I am new-to-all-this as well, personally I have just planted tomatoes, which are doing good. I also have melon, strawberry, sweetcorn, calabrese, cauli, butternut squash.

I have to make a few changes as you will see from the replies to my posts. Personally I am just giving it ago I learn better as I go along, with guidance from this lovely forum I intend to do well, but we shall see!

I hope yours goes well.

Some cut and come again salad leaves give a nice instant return for effort and dwarf french beans are allways a good bet too.

Hi!
I did the same as you last year and started with everything in pots - I loved it so much that this year I've dug a smallish veggie plot as well - its so rewarding and great when it ends up on your plate!!
You can do loads of stuff in pots but not sure what you'll be able to do this year - salad leaves like Carol said are always a good bet though as they don't take long at all - I always put copper tape round the pots to keep the slugs off! There's always garlic and stuff to plant in the Autumn though as well.
Good luck x
