Dry as a bone down here too, took over an hour to give everything a good soak as I had to give a fine spray first or it would have just run off into the paths. Some of the sowings have woken up finally, have some carrots & beetroot up - sown 3 weeks ago, a few lettuces popping up, the cut & come salad is literally just up, spinach is stalled a bit, but the runners I had to put in as they were twisting around each other in the greenhouse are looking perky, have baby broad beans on the plants, potatoes are greening up again after their frosting & I'm feeling a bit more optimistic.

This year as I'm growing Ratblasters Migrating Predatory Cabbage I are mostly doubling the size of my brassica cage.
Remanufactured existing frame modules and made more, all reinforced with either plywood triangles or old floorboards. Thats three weekends work right there.
Two door type thingys to make, cut up some old pipe to make reinforcing posts, relocate the frames without chicken wire and put the plastic netting on top.

Lots of lovely photos of your plots, Thankyou for sharing! We had a nice warm sunny day today, planted out dahlias (I know, they had started to grow in the green house border and needed to go out) we have covered them with fleece and cloches, we used everything we had! We have lost all our figs this year, wisteria and a few other things to the frost at the end of April. Even the flowers of the cordyline were bitten, and even though our spuds were covered, they are damaged.

Fantastic work and photos Peter. When I first saw them I thought you were creating a very posh chicken run! That's a lot of hard work involved. I hope the end results justify it all.

Blue sky with a lot of vapour trails high up
Lot of condensation in greenhouse
Odd that the text in the local area online weather report suggested there could be frost in rural areas yet actual overnight low was stated as going to be around 9 degrees
Lot of moisture on cars and ground this morning but no sign of frost
Mrs S, who is on a week off, and I covered potatoes yesterday just in case
Visit to RHS Wisely planned for today, see how their vegetable plot is doing

Strange today there was more ice on the car than yesterday but minimum 0.8°C compared with -0.1°C yesterday. Interesting having the weather station, recalls the words of the song about the coldest hour before dawn, coldest bit is quite brief so assume not doing much harm. Getting fed up with sheeting over the potatoes every night, looks like tonight might be the last in this run. Another lovely day in prospect.

Beautiful today here too. It only got down to 2.2° fortunately as I couldn't be bothered covering everything up. I've just spent an hour watering everything. I've still lots to plant out, the leeks, more sowings of peas, and I'll have to unravel the climbing french beans in the greenhouse before they tie themselves in knots. I always sow them too early, must wait until the first week in May next year.
