That isn't a ramble Geoff and whilst it's reasonable that you deprecate yourself from the suggestion you are an expert sharing your experiences and methods are valuable to us all. I'm impressed, the amount of work you've put in over the years since making your home habitable is in itself impressive.
No chance of a fortnight loafing about on a beach on one of the Canaries then ?
How are you supposed to start and maintain a healthy lifestyle if it completely removes a wine lover’s reason to live? Richard.
ive iust recovered one of my two 14 by 30 nearly 20 year old tunnels, the other now also needs doing as soon as good weather coinsides with a free day.
tunnels run north/south with usable door at south end, bench infront of north door, ive got 3 long beds with two narrow paths. tomatoes and climbing beans etc in the cwntre bed, strawberries and low growing stuff in the outer beds with restricted headroom.
apart from stuff like tomatoes that like the heat its about extending the season at both ends , early strawberries and salad potatoes and salad greens through the winter.
i tend to let atleast one of salad greens go to seed every year , so theres a carpet of self sown salad leaves most of the year , its green manure if its not eaten.
heat control in the summer and watering are the two arts to master. i leave the north end doors shut as i find a through wind dries the place out. i use a normal lawn sprinkler to soak usually one a week in summer go to twice if theres no condensation on the inside of the plastic. keeping it humid seems to allow most things to cope with the temperature.
this time ive gone for the sort of milky plastic that diffuses and scatters the light, supposed to eliminate shadows and keep the peak temperatures down a tad. time will tell if its better. also diffuses the view for the one neighbour who can see if ive left all my clothes at the door cos its too hot in there.
new plastic came via fleabay from robinson tunnels, hotspot and repair tape from whoever was cheapest, i find ordering online less of a chore than actually going shopping. even the new strawberry plants came off ebay.
