Hi Pawty,
This just goes to show there are many ways to kill a cat but all the ways that you have described are ways to pregerminate.
I live very rurally and have a large amount of rodents around the plot and if I were to sow direct after pregermination it would be fatal.
Years ago I planted a kilogram of Peas direct and managed to raise 3! Even Squirrels have been known to dig up and eat freshly planted seeds.

Am I the only one who loves to watch beans grow in the first week of germination...... I find the day to next day change incredible! These took a week to start and are French dwarf
