As I write (06:50am) the sky is a combination of bright blue, small white clouds, larger grey clouds forming and looking very grey towards the south west.
What are your plans for this long weekend
I shall check how the chitting potatoes are doing
If the ground does not get to wet I may try and prepare another onion bed for the onions grown from seed.
Other than maybe Marigolds and sweet peas I think the only veg I may sow will be Early Onward peas.
Shall sow those in guttering in the greenhouse. Got 4.8 linear metres of ground set aside for them.
Early Easter Gardening Plans ?

I'm going to have to make a decision - dig or no-dig? I usually get a trailer load of manure delivered the first week in March but the farmer has been ill and it hasn't arrived yet. I have quite a bit of good compost but the plan was to manure the veg and top dress the flower borders with compost, the manure is not usually crumbly enough for the flowers. All the beds are weeded ready to dig.
On the planting side; I moved the early Tomatoes, Cucumbers and Courgettes out of the propagator yesterday so I have some space. Need to decide between taking cuttings of Agyranthemum and Verbena or putting some Dahlia tubers in there to give them a kick start. Chrysanthemums are shooting too well with not having really gone dormant in the mild Winter so may need to do those cuttings as well.
Decisions, decisions and the family here for Easter as well after a grim journey up from Sussex last night, arrived 02:15 won't see them for a few hours yet! Lovely day here but not forecast to last.

Big Derby day around here st.helens v Wigan every thing stops but I still have to go and feed the chickens as well as dropping of what Easter bunny has left for our grandchildren trouble is the son in law is a wiganer or pie eater as they are known
Slightly off topic but yesterday I was in Homebase where I love to rescue plants.. Got three trays of violas/pansies for 50 cents each. Theya are battered looking but when I take the dead flowers off they bloom well.. Too unwell today for much though; after the smoke filled house then three days of slurry fumes...takes me a while at this age to recover but as getting there and am so enjoying reading your plans and deeds. THANK YOU!!

Marigold I can't believe you have lived in Wigan and never heard of pie eater, it's as famous as a Wigan barbeque( four pies in the oven with the door left open )or a Wigan mixed grill (pork pie steak pie and meat and tator pie )all on one plate with a few chips. Haha

Thought you were vegetarian - are they as good as tempting you to the dark side as bacon butties and roast lamb?
Almost but not strictly . Occasional meat but the metatati pies I meant have almost no meat mostly gravy...roast lamb never ever ever.. yukk.... And given up on bacon also.. partly that I have issues swallowing with age and solid things get stuck. But tastes change as we age and cow and lambs are totally safe for me...

My time in Wigan was 50 tears ago and everything you say is alien to me! Just after the war it was... meat was scarce... we boiled bones for soup.

Spent a lovely day at lottie today, T shirt weather, but the only one of the 4 days that it isn't going to be rainy, windy or hail & lightening.
Got the first early potatoes in, soil nice & warm so sowed some carrots & turnip. Harvested the last of the kale & took the netting off it for the birds to finish them off, popped in some more broad bean seeds, (probably to feed the mice), planted the fresh strawberry runners in the old bed where I did a cull & made a very brave effort weeding the flower bed outside the fence which the dreaded couch grass had taken hold & self sown flowers seedlings are starting to appear, but didn't quite finish that. I decided the soil where the next lot of spuds are going was a bit compacted so thought I'd cover it for a bit & let the mole help loosen it up - why when it was still all day does a wee gust come up just as I start unfolding the black plastic sheeting?

I planted the first peas and broad beans out of their roottrainers today, but as they are in the garden rather than allotment, they are still under a netting cloche to protect them from house sparrows as much as the elements. The roottrainers are now empty to sow the next lot, destined for the allotment.
Also turned over all our compost bins after sprinkling on some Garotta and mixing in some torn cardboard. Everything should be rotting down nicely now.
Walked into Skipton this morning which was 'heaving' with people - I suppose everybody was making the most of today's good weather with the deluge forecast for the next three days. Might just clean the house tomorrow .....
