So did mine together with a letter offering victim of crime counselling - I reported last week that some scroat had removed my car aerial. I wonder what form it would take, attempt to persuade me not to remove genitals as a swap if I catch up with them? (I'm a great believer in Darwin).

I think there must be bonus's being paid for getting people to attend 'counselling' sessions right now.
I've been offered counselling because in my GP's opinion I am not taking my illness seriously enough.
She insisted I rang my oncologists department and ask for a second opinion.
They laughed and said I was probably the last person on their books right now that they would suggest needed counselling
My wife and my daughter were both offered counselling by their GP's merely because they are associated with me. My daughters GP was quite forceful about it.
My daughters reply was, "We all have to go sometime, so he might croak it earlier than his friends or relatives, or he might not. P*** off with your counselling, why would I need it just because we treat the disease with black humour not by wailing and moaning "
Doc replied " I'll take that as a No then"
Seems our GP's got the message

I think everybody deals with the diagnosis of an incurable disease in their own way, and for some humour and black humour is the strategy which helps carries them through a difficult period. I doubt that this is a sign of denial. I am also sure that in Pa Snip's case there have been appropriate times when there have been serious discussions on the issue. But we all have an alotted time span and it is to us to make the most of it, whatever our circumstances. Doing so in a cheerful fashion, even in diffixult times in my view, is the best way of trying to cope with things. That doesn't signify denial, it merely means making the most of the blessings we still have in ournown style.

I had an old mate who passed away with cancer around four years ago when he told me he had three months to live I was more devastated than him, his attitude was unbelievable " I've had a good life it's time to go " was the statement he made to me , he was one of the good guys you meet as life ticks bye ,I wish you and your family well parsnip

Indeed Primrose, but not too lengthy and always interspersed with humorous moments. Even visiting the local undertakers was fun at times
Don't know what it is about the town we live in, travel 12 miles in any direction and fuel is considerably cheaper.
Travel 12 miles to the town where my parents used to live and get a quote from the undertaker we used for them and it is a staggering thousand pound cheaper

As someone mentioned before its amazing how threads can become diverse in the direction they take, we have just got from vandals breaking car aerials to undertakers via counselling.

Gosh Pa Snip. visiting undertakers in advance really IS a case of being well prepared !!
After attending a funeral where the music was so inappropriate (in my view ) I commented that if anybody played music like that at my funeral I would come back and haunt them. so I have actually made a note of the hymns and music I would like when my turn comes.

I have only 2 requests for my funeral (well 3vif you count cremation) no one can wear black (dark blue is OK just about) and I want the exit song to be "the smoke gets in your eyes"

I attended a funeral yesterday. I did the eulogy, after which I sat there sobbing in the church whilst hymns were being sang ..... My young niece turned to me and said 'what's in the box....' ......... My tears turned from those of loss to laughter. My nan would have thought it brilliant!

I am even more prepared than that

I went to a funeral that was that bad... She wasn't even Christian, and her mum insisted on a very c of each funeral... About the only "song" that fit the deceased was Mr brightside...
Pawty I just cracked up laughing and now have to explain to my wife why I'm laughing at funeral posts

And that sums up my whole approach, we should be able to laugh about funerals whilst also maintaining the due respect to the deceased.
I want everyone laughing at mine, I don't want black clothing worn. I've requested no flowers, just vegetable displays subject to time of year
Now I guess we had better get back off this subject. It is general chatter forum but some may feel uncomfortable discussing it and some will see it as inappropriate no doubt.

Pa Snip - not on this site they won't. Everything we do is about life & death, it might be plants or pets or us, but it is what life is about - there is an end! (Although I appreciate some will experience loss & find it painful at that particular time to read the posts).
I've been thinking about the fact I'm not going to be the world's oldest women at any point, nudged into that thinking maybe by your experiences & openess, so what I want at my funeral drifts in & out of my thoughts. I know it is probably weird but I truly want a guest list! I've been to too many where there are people in attendance have been nothing but critical of the deceased when they were alive & it made me angry that these hypocrites were in attendance.
Just got to build on that then.....sorted!
