The Memsahib and I are now into the porridge season. Looking in the supermarket at the various brands and more importantly the unit prices. Wondered are there different grades of oats.If so what one is the best.

I don't do porridge, never been caught yet, but do make my own muesli. I like jumbo oats for it but they are hard to find. The oats for porridge that you usually find seem to be full of dust - flour I suppose it is really. Perhaps it is because I usually select 'value range' or similar as I can't believe there is much difference in the original grains. It will be interesting to see if people believe there are different qualities other than milling variations.

I have spoken with the Kitchen Lady (DW) who makes the most excellent porridge for us several times a week. She says there is only one make worth getting and its called Mornflake and to forget about the rest. Its in most supermarket sheds.
We dare not argue with her on kitchen matters so there you have it - problem solved!

Spot on, totally agree. Pointless paying out for the big brand names. Tastes good

Personally I only get the aldi stuff lol. It's all down to personal choice. Although I find what you add to it makes a bigger difference than the oats

For him wha sups, shall creesh thy crown,
But milk alane, maun isle thee roun',
Till thou dost soom,
Then a' man needs is ae lang spoon
And elbow room.
Gie France her puddocks and ragouts,
Gie England puddings, beefs, and stews,
Gie Ireland taties, shamrocks, soos,
And land sae bogie,
True Scotsmen still will scaud their mou's
