Time warp at work today...11:45am, stepped out of the gents,....initially heard a turboprop aircraft..glanced up to see a Hercules....and Vulcan. Routing to the West with the Vulcan echelon right.

At 12 noon Vulcan was seen again orbiting out to the East with a "fast jet", Tornado.?, at each wing.

Amazing chance sighting...right place right time..:)

...and also today I completed the double-ish digging of the formal front garden catmint beds as part of their rejuvenation... :)

Had a lovely little jolly up North to Bridport & Lyme Regis today. Time was against us to really mooch too much, but found Balson's Family Butchers in Bridport, which is the oldest family run butchers in England. (Est 1515). Wouldn't have been rude not to check it out so have a couple of beautiful dark T Bones to try! There are 3 proper butchers in the town, & we bought something in each.

We don't have a proper butcher near us anymore. It's supermarket bright pink meat, with or without the cling film & the only actual butcher nearby has trays of pre-prepared meat in marinades that are a wee bit nuclear in color & a bit hard to tell what meat is actually in them. (Although there is one in the next village that has apparently reverted back to basics & won Dorset Butcher of the Year, so all may not be lost).

Anyway let's see what lottie has to offer to go with the meat feast!

Saw rhe Vulcan flying at Eastbourne Airbourne Airshow in August. Magic sight and rare opportunity to see it. Don't know what the plans are for any future possible public sightings. You picked a lucky day Clive. So lovely to see all these special old aircraft flying, especially when you recall how much some of them did for the nation during the wartime years. They are so fragile compared to modern day aircraft and have a special magic about them.

Garden furniture packed away for the winter yesterday yet the sun continues to shine this morning. I can live with this kind of contrariness. It's when you get it out of storage in the Spring, full of hopeful anticipation, and it just pours with rain every day!

The weather has been absolutely beautiful the last few days - early mist, then sunshine until the evening and not a breeze! We took the opportunity to dig all the empty beds. Where the dwarf beans had grown, with an edging of single French marigolds, the soil was so dry it just ran off the spade.
We covered some of the beds with well-rotted cow manure which had been 'stewing' under a plastic sheet since spring - now hoping that the forecast rain will dampen everything before we can dig it in.
And, no, no cabbage whites about .... in fact, we have seen very few of them this summer and the brassicas are all remarkably clean.

Had to smile at the story that the New Yok Jets American Football team brought their own "thick" toilet rolls with them,all 350 of them!Apparently ours are too thin.Been there, done that.................!!!

Feeling slightly tipsy - I've been bottling the red and white currant wines and have had a few mouthfuls sucking the wine down the syphon tube.

The white is the best this year. My new White Versailles and White Grape currant bushes have had a very good crop and have excellent flavour.
