My second cataract operation went very smoothly so I expect to be out and about very soon.
I wish the other sufferers a speedy recovery.

Most of my cordon tomatoes now showing some signs of bkight so have picked all the remaining fruit including the green ones. I found some Camden sterilising (sodium metabisophite) tablets in a drawer left over from our winemakng days so have soaked all the tomagoes in a water solution with some of them dissolved in for a couple of hours in the hope that these may save some of them
It grieves me somewhat to lose all the haulms from my potential compost material but not risking it so they're in the rubbish bag and i've washed all the tomato stakes and my seccateurs in the sterilising fluid too. Lovely sunny day here so good to be out in the garden and the picked tomatoes on trays will be playing an "in/ out" game too depending on sun levels.

Looks as if that is fair timing, Alan, as the weather looks as if it's improving over the next few days.
Lovely here too, just cut the allotment grass as it is growing like furry....
The road is closed today for a cycling event and very peaceful it is too....

Glad the cataract operation went well Alan. Hope you manage to get 'out and about" again soon before this elusive two day Indian summer slips from our grasp. I always think this is auch a nostalgic time of year, desperately trying to hang onto and enjoy what little heat and warmth we have left.
i always enjoy Monty Don's philosophical comments on the weather at this time of year . He always gets just the right tone. You know summer is over when Gardener's World comes off air until the following spring!.

Glad your operation went well, Alan. Now for a full and speedy recovery and good sight again!
We had our village show yesterday on a lovely dry, sunny and still day. Not only were the entries up but the crowds came and attended, too. It was particularly satisfying to see so many children's entries and they and all their families came of course how they had done! Only the children get (small) money prizes, so there is always great competition but this will, hopefully, ensure the future of the show.

Has everyone elses weeds started growing like mad, a week ago nothing, now they are popping up everywhere. Annoyingly made worse by a plot holder letting their sow-thistles seed everywhere for the last few years. Luckily that plot has now been taken over by a new plot holder and a very good job they are doing with it.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

Yep weeds ++ for me too OH! Couldn't see my leeks for all the weed growth. All from the plot next door (I think), which has now been empty for about a year now. All the plot is covered in weeds about 4 or 5 ft tall. I cleared next to the fence to hoe's length on that side but probably a futile gesture!
Got a wee bit excited on Sunday when they brought someone down to show around, but it was to the plot next to this neglected one which has not been long vacated so will have to persevere, but if not taken soon will resort to weed killer which I don't use on my plot & may cost a bit. Personally I think the committee should do this & they would have strimmed it at least but they had all their motor tools stolen a while back!

I got an apple right between the eyes when picking them the other day. It fell from high up the tree so went with quite a wallop.
